AMI Instruction vs. Snow Days
A snow day is traditionally a day off, but not this year. The Missouri Legislature changed attendance requirements in SB727 adding in a requirement based on days versus the current requirement which is calculated in hours. We must now meet the required number of days (169) and hours (1044) to qualify for an incentive of 1% of our state aid, which will increase to 2% in 2027-2028.
There is no forgiveness in SB727 for snow days. We have a calendar of 170 days, so our first snow day will not be an AMI day, but every snow day after will be an AMI day to ensure we meet the requirement of 169 days. If we need to call off school for inclement weather, students will learn from home on snow day #2 and beyond.
Students will take home packets today containing 6 days of AMI material. Please store these in a safe location in your home as you will need to refer to this packet each time an AMI day is used. ONLY ONE DAY OF MATERIAL needs to be completed at a time, although the packet contains 6 days of material in all. We are sending it in advance because we want to be prepared in case we don't have ample warning of inclement weather. Please follow the teacher's directions for completion of the learning material. Assignments must be turned in on the next school day that we are in session.
Notes:
* Students working from home is called an AMI day, which stands for Alternate Method of Instruction.
* SB727 goes into effect next year, but they will look back to this school year to see if schools met the attendance requirements as a baseline year for payment.
